NYFW – dreaded four letters for any woman in New York City. Fashion Week happens twice a year (Spring/Fall) – for two weeks, the city is packed with hoping-to-be-photographed fashionistas, style bloggers with painfully expensive designer carry-alls, and gazelle models whispering their way around Lincoln Center and Soho in 6 inch heels, mohair jackets, and sour expressions.
I am neither a fashionista, a gazelle, nor do I have a prototype Alexander Wang from a sample sale.
But I do have the internet, which affords me all the latest photos of the runway… and it’s HARD TO KEEP UP!
We’ve got Pantone seasonal colors (plum, teal, deep jewel tones), we have “Underwater” and “Constellation.” We have “1960′s Chunky Accessories and Patterns”… plus let’s not forget gold toned metallics and the bright lipstick craze. Two-toned manicures and bright boho “Print Mixing” and native Aztec inspired chevrons/arrowheads.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think if I were to wear a plaid poncho with galaxy leggings and a scuba gear inspired top, I would literally be ‘voted off the island.’
And so this lowly jewelry designer plods on, hoping that at some point I’ll accidentally sync with Fashion.
